          Data Archive Decoder

========================================

--------------
 Introduction
--------------

Rosenkreuzstilette is an old-fashioned side-scroller created by indie developer
[erka:es]. Heavily influenced by classics like Megaman and Castlevania, nearly
every aspect of RKS honors the spirit of retro gaming.

Though the game contains dozens upon dozens of hat-tips to older games, many of
these homages appear onscreen for only a few seconds at a time. As the creators
of the English version of Rosenkreuzstilette, we thought it would be best to
allow players to examine the art and music of RKS at their own leisure.

------------------------
 Operating Instructions
------------------------

The RKS Data Archive Decoder does exactly what its name suggests: it decodes
the contents of Rosenkreuzstilette's data archives. The decoder can be used via
the command line (for the truly hardcore) or as a Drag & Drop utility (for the
less technically inclined):

 Command Line
--------------
At the command prompt, type "Decode.exe <filename>" (replacing "<filename>" with
the name of the archive) to extract the contents of that archive to a subfolder
with the same name. Note that, like its Japanese equivalent, this program only
supports fully-qualified filenames (like "R:\Rosenkreuzstilette\data\bgm.dat").
Remember to enclose the filename in quotes if it contains any spaces.

 Drag & Drop
-------------
Just drag the archive you wish to extract onto the Decode.exe icon. A subfolder
containing the archive's contents will be created in the same folder as the
original archive (provided there is enough free space on that drive).
